When Calm Won’t Stop Flowing
Learning to weather the calm storms

We all go through storms — usually internal, often weathered alone.
Some storms are dark, and some are calm.
For me, I’ve always felt this inner, deep sense of unwavering calm — the kind most people would lose in chaos.
Sometimes I wonder where it comes from.
It’s not mindfulness. It’s not peace.
It’s just an inner calm I can’t seem to move.
Not always a good thing.
Sometimes I think I could be in a life-or-death situation, and yet the calm doesn’t stop flowing.
It stays — steady, unwavering — like my body forgot how to panic.
That’s the issue: I could be in a place of unsafety, and still, the calm flows.
Lately, I’ve been asking myself:
How do you stop the calm from flowing when it’s not peace — it’s protection?
I used to think my calm was strength — and maybe it still is —
but sometimes it feels like the kind of strength that grew from walking on eggshells for too long.
From learning to walk away from someone else’s storm.
So how do you stop the calm from flowing?
Maybe you don’t stop it.
Maybe you remind yourself that calm can come from peace, not fear.
And maybe that’s the journey —
not breaking the calm,
but transforming it.
I think it’s finally learning
to weather the storm and
who we choose to take with us.
Always,
Zahra
