If a part of you hasn’t died, how will you ever truly know yourself?

New chapters are how we reveal our identity.

If a part of you hasn’t died, how will you ever truly know yourself?

I’ve been sitting with this thought lately.

Not many people like to think about death — and honestly, it’s not a topic I bring up often either.

But I’ve realised that death, in its many forms, and metaphorically speaking is the most inspirational part of life when it comes to understanding myself.

Death isn’t always physical. Sometimes it’s the quiet endings — the beliefs that no longer serve you, the habits you’ve outgrown, the identities that once protected you but now hold you back. It’s the subtle dissolving of the person you thought you had to be.

I’m grateful for every version of me that’s had to die — every identity I’ve shed, every chapter I was forced to close, and every moment I felt a piece of me fade away. Because with each ending, I was given the chance to step into a new chapter, reborn. I was given the space to revisit myself — not with criticism or shame, but with compassion.

Some people try to rush their growth. They step into new chapters before they’re ready, chasing a version of themselves they think they should become. But I’ve learned to let the chapters unfold on their own.

I’ve also realised that growth itself is something we glorify, but it doesn’t look the same for everyone. To me, growth isn’t about constantly adding more. It’s about shedding — stripping away the layers that aren’t truly you, so what remains is something real, unfiltered, and whole.

✨ Reflection: What’s one thing that’s stopping you from stepping into your next chapter — and revealing your truest self?

Always,

Zahra
